Summary of Our Position
First we would like to point out that this has been played out in the media, in such a way, as to belittle the value of Florida Democrats and their voting rights. We also realize that as mere citizens of the United States, Floridians had no immediate recourse but to sit there and 'take it'. We, as United States citizens, want to sincerely apologize to the Florida Democratic Party and the people of Florida for the public humiliation they have had to go through during this situation.
We must also point out that this issue is a fundamental flaw in the primary election 'system' for both the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee. States where a legislative majority of one party or the other can always use this 'loop hole' to manipulate the primary elections, if the parties continue to sanction for change of date issues. National legislation may be required to fix this.
It is our contention that the Democratic National Committee Rules and Bylaws constitute a service agreement between the Democratic Voters of the United States and the DNC. We further believe that the DNC broke this contract when they willfully and deliberately ignored sections of this agreement and stripped the voting rights of the Democratic voters of the state of Florida, without offering them a legislatively and financially achievable alternative to have the Democratic voters of Florida represented in the Democratic National Convention. This inability for the DNC to work with Florida legislators and Democratic Party officials brings up an even larger issue of state rights and laws vs. national organization policy. We leave it up to the professionals to work through this.
We do not minimize the actions of the DNC by referring to them as 'punishment', instead; we believe that the DNC has taken away the very rights of Florida democrats to a fair and democratic process. Within this section, we offer details about our position. We hope that you will consider all of this content and realize that your voting rights could be stripped in this manner, regardless of our state of residence or party affilliation.
