Is This Political Corruption?

This is a situation where a state's legislature, with an overwelming party majority, has been able to use state legislation to manipulate the National voting rights of the citizens of that state and the opposing party. And, by doing so, also alter the outcome of a National Presidential primary election and possibly the Presidential election itself.

By passing HB537, the Florida Republican legislature changed the outcome of the 2008 Presidential primary, whether these delegates are reinstated or not.  It has left our own Democratic party divided on this issue. And, it has, most likely, permanently diminished the Democratic Party's strength and fund raising capabilities in the state of Florida.

There are more important questions that you may need to ask yourself:

Can this only happen to Democrats?  No, any state that has a legislative majority can minipulate the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee Rules and Bylaws and calendar dicatates to manipulate the Presidential Primary.  In fact, in this legislative situation did effect the RNC's primary election results. Florida delegates for the RNC were decreased by 50%. Keep in mind that any manipulation technique that works, will be used again.  Sadly, it is part of the politcal game, but should not be part of the political process.

What can be done to stop this?  This is a situation where a National organization is trying to dictate state policy and law. The outcome does not negatively effect state elections; so why would the states change their own legislative process? It only effects National primaries. Because of this, obviously both the RNC and the DNC are the only ones that can effect a change. How they do that may be through national legislation, but I am not sure if the states would honor it.  But, I know that any change must start within the DNC and RNC.
